Abstract

This study is identified with (The Semantic Problem of Machine Translation - Idioms as an example)
It addresses the semantic problems encountered by machine translation while translating idioms.
The study consists of two chapters. The first chapter deals with translation, machine translation, and the relationship of language with translation. It also deals with context theory with its two types, verbal and diacritical, and the impact of context on the meanings of idiomatic expressions.
The second chapter deals with idiomatic expressions and the problems of translating them by the automatic translator, as well as an indication of the role of context in translating these expressions.
The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach in dealing with data, and the reason for choosing the internationally known machine translator (Google Translate) as one of the most successful machine translation systems used and the most widespread among website users and even among researchers, despite the existence of linguistic and meaning problems in translation.
