Abstract
This study is one of the studies that focus on the role of scientific debates in eliminating sectarian fanaticism and intellectual extremism in the Abbasid era .This was one of the reasons for holding debate councils, and according to the many intellectual differences that characterized the Arab-Islamic civilization, debates were found to establish the right and reach it. In the scientific debate boards. The debates varied with the diversity of their topics and their corresponding sides. The study also showed evidence for the legitimacy of debates in the Holy Qur’an, which urged attention to debates, as well as evidence from the honorable Prophetic Sunnah and the sayings of the Companions and their jurisprudence in the debates that took place between them on various issues, especially after the death of the Prophet (PBUH), where the judgments of the Companions emerged and this is what Indicates the centrality of debate in the Arab-Islamic civilization, but rather it is the distinguishing feature of it in its different eras, and through this scientific journey, the study concluded with the most prominent results it reached with recommendations.
