Abstract

This research deals with the subject of narrative rhythm, specifically the rhythm of characters in Burhan Shawi's novels - Mazes. We have highlighted three of his novels' mazes; (Adam's labyrinth, Eve's labyrinth, Cain's labyrinth), and we have shown in the research a change in the rhythm of the inner world of the characters affected by the outer world of events, time, and place. The research is divided into a preface and two chapters, with the results of the research and a list of sources and references. The preface contains the concept of rhythm and narrative rhythm, and a brief overview of the life of the novelist (Burhan Shawi). The first section deals with the rhythm of the main characters and the second topic deals with the rhythm of non-main characters. It is worth mentioning that the characters occupied a vast position in the three novels due to the large number of characters and their containment of the largest number of segments of the society, so we shed light on it, and in conclusion, we show the most prominent results reached by the research.
