Abstract

The Peshkawtn Newspaper (1920-1922) as a Kurdish weekly newspaper was owned and issued under the British rule in Sulaimaniyah. It paid considerable attention to the political events, diplomatic efforts and the relationships of the Ottoman Empire with the allied countries of that time. With this regard, one of the political events related to Ottoman Empire presented in this newspaper was the Paris Conference (Near Eastern Council). As a matter of fact, this conference was held following the new phase of political relations between the Ottoman Empire and the allied countries in the beginning of 1922. Thus, with the aim of amending the provisions and articles of the Sevres Treaty and discussing the issues and conflicts between (Turkey and Greece) in general and the issues related to the areas of (Trakya, Izmir and Edirne) in particular, the allied countries decided to hold such a conference in Paris, the capital of France; the conference then continued its activities and meetings from 22-26 of March 1922 and proposed truce and peace to the governments of (Istanbul, Ankara and Athens). Despite the approval of the peace and truce proposals by the Istanbul government, the Ankara government rejected both; the Athens accepted the truce but rejected peace proposal. As a result, the efforts made by the allied countries to secure peace ended in vain after exchanging numerous memorandums among the disputing parties. Through using the method of presenting and analyzing the data, this study wants to show the way how the participated countries in the conference dealt with the situation and to reveal the main factors behind the establishment of peace among the disputed countries; and to answer the following questions: why the disputing parties of the conference had different stance towards the proposals of the conference. Why the conference did not succeed in its efforts and aims.
