The geographical position Kalar province has played an important role in the ancient history of Mesopotamia. The first step of civilization in Mesopotamia originated in the caves and shelters of the Zagros and extended through Garmian to central and southern Mesopotamia, So, Garmian was the bridge between the cultural and civilizational changes of Upper and Lower Mesopotamia. Kalar and its surroundings have been of political and economic importance. The region has been the link between civilizations such as southern Mesopotamia, Zagros and Iran. From the early Bronze Age to the middle Ages, it has maintained this important geographical position. This strategic position of the region has constantly faced attacks and occupations by successive states in southern Mesopotamia.
