Animals have had ancient friendships with humans throughout the history of human civilization, many of which have become symbols and carriers of good and undesirable traits of human personality. Symbol is used in literature as an artistic and moral phenomenon and is part of shortcuts, intended to concentrate a broad belief and has developed as an aesthetic, psychological and social function.
In this research, an attempt has been made to show the personality of Kurdish people in general and Kirkuk and Garmian regions in particular through the symbols of animals in the proverbs and sayings of that region.
This study is divided into three main sections, the first of which is theoretical, and the others are practical. The first section attempts to interpret the concept of symbol in terms of its relationship to proverbs, animals, and personalities. The second section discusses the symbolism of domestic animals on the margins of human personality. In the third section, the symbols of wild animals are taken, and human personality is shown. In the same section, through a table of different personalities, which are depicted with animal symbols, classified and the proportion of positive and negative personalities in Kirkuk and Garmian proverbs was revealed.
