A Sociolinguistic Analysis of Offensive Expressions in Selected English and Arabic Movies

Abstract
Offensive expressions have been the center of focus for sociolinguists recently; they are discussing the reasons behind considering those offensive words as a spoiler of social and religious institutions  and explaining the process of change in the social characteristics, values, and customs which result in making the use of offensive expressions a common habit. These expressions are defined as a type of words that are considered as inappropriate, vulgar, insulting, foul, bad or dirty. It is manipulated to disparage individuals through their race, religion, sex, and ethnicity to serve a range of purposes such as entertain, shock, and emphasize certain ideas.
             The findings indicate that in English movie Deadpool2, offensive expressions uttered 141 times while in the Arabic movie, Welad Rizq, they are used 60 times.  As a result, it indicates that the use of offensive expressions in English movie is greater than in the Arabic one due to the nature and culture of western society beside there is little restrains from religion and community in using such a type of offensive words in daily conversation.
