Abstract

This article with the title (mental spaces, concepts and principles in the Kurdish language) is an attempt to present the principles of the theory of mental spaces in the Kurdish language. One of the most prominent research areas in cognitive linguistics is the theory of mental spaces, which was first presented by Fauconnier in the 1980s based on the inseparability of semantics and pragmatics studies as a basic principle of cognitive linguistics. This theory works on how to construct meaning and interpret the hidden meaning of expressions and interprets the formation of meaning as a result of using language in context. Mental spaces are part of conceptual spaces, based on cultural, pragmatics and linguistic strategies, the basis of their formation and the relationships or adaptations created between mental spaces, the ability to create unlimited meaning and interpretations, they carry specific information and create new information. And as a result different mental spaces. The emergence of new mental spaces occurs for several reasons, including a number of linguistic units known as space builders. Also, the expansion of linguistic structures and phrases also leads to the expansion of spaces.
